Corlett has provided an account of analytic social epistemology that should meet the objections of most analytic philosophers without losing the interest of the sociologists and psychologists who have made social epistemology such a vibrant enterprise. About the Author
J. Angelo Corlett is assistant professor of philosophy at Georgia State University. Articles have appeared in Public Affairs Quarterly, The Journal of Social Philosophy, The Journal of Business Ethics, and Social Epistemology. He edited Equality and Liberty: Analyzing Rawls and Nozick (Macmillan).

A Breakthrough in Social Epistemology

In this rigorous work, professor Corlett naturalizes the epistemological approch by introducing the element of the social into his account of cognition. By employing an analytic narrative, Dr. Corlett proffers a brilliant exposition of social epistemology which combines both collective and individualized epistemics. Furthermore, professor Corlett adduces his "Social Epistemic Reliabilism" as a theory of social epistemology that enumerates a full account of social justification, social belief, social truth, social epistemic responsibility, and social epistemic luck. Additionally, Corlett conceives the role of cognizant justification as that which may take on a dual role; namely, reason-giving and non-reason-giving justification. After considering other contemporaneous authors and their attempts at constructing a social epistemology (i.e. Margaret Gilbert, Steve Fuller, Alvin Goldman, and Keith Lehrer), professor Corlett rejects these attempts-but only in such a way so as to incorporate their strenghts and improve upon their deficiencies. Lastly, this work is undoubtedly constructed so as to amalgamate its findings with those common to other interdisciplinary approaches such as: Social Psychology, Sociology, Jurisprudence, and of course, Moral Philosophy.
