I love shifter stories and yes shifter erotica. This did not strike me as much more than just erotica and not well written erotica. I don't normally give away a books story, but for those who like just straight erotica you will not get a spoiler other than..meh it was ok. Spoiler: There is a beat up guy in dad's office. Dad says girl must marry said beat up guy. Beat up guy shows up in girls dressing room while girl is getting on wedding dress and girl notices guy looks pretty good cleaned up. Sex ensues. Hey guess we should get married, Dad may be right. The end.

I wish I could go back and say don't bother, but it's too late..

Bought the trilogy, read the trilogy and can basically sum up the trilogy is less words then went into first chapter yet was strung along three books to be dropped off a cliff with an ending with no sense at the end..I get that Shifter is all the rage, and Romance is big in sales.. but we are not mindless drones so starved that Romance deprived to the point that no story flies..is some how acceptable to sell us three books.. I am basically going to review all three in the next two paragraphs and let you see if you want to go buy three books and see if there is anything I missed..
Book one, Temp starts a New Job, meats Bully of the office and decides she'll stand up to her and somehow with a one quip wonder puts her in her place. yea not really.. Mystery Boss who is virtually never seen before suddenly sees her and wow gives her a priceless family talisman because he somehow guesses she's a Native American Goddess come back to earth. She goes home and suddenly necklace acts up and a cougar tries to kill her but a second one saves the day. the end. Book two she wakes up the next day is sore well duh she got mauled last night but go to work act fine no problem.. At work meets second reclusive boss and suddenly is wait for it, yea they are both shifters ! No erotica so that's at least a plus. They must get to the safty of the reservation and suddenly they meet the rival Native tribe.. and well what do you know the lady steps forward and says lets all just get along.. and they all just troop off to the reservation together.
Book three...Reservation check, Father and son Issues Check,.. they must verify her reincarnated spirit so into the reservation, sweat lodge where TADA dream shows she has some small potential.. they go to sleep that night still no erotica thankfully because that would have tanked this trilogy in a heart beat..gotta stay off the sex until training is complete..well not a complete flop but still a super let down story line basis..because it ends.. just jumps off a cliff face when she is woken in the middle of the night by a character she has known less then 24 hours says the guy you had been trusting is the bad guy.. the END. No explanations..No stay tuned for the continuing saga, in the next book, these have the page numbers of a comic book of the sixties and seventies and less plot then they had. What gets me is that in an attempt to review a work and give it a fair read I have read two series by the same group and both are well kindle so I can't say not worth the paper and ink..but be thankful a tree didn't give up it's like for this.. Three books, a little over 24 hours and THE END excuse me did some of the story get eaten by the editor's dog? Where is it a great ending of a trilogy to wake someone in the middle of the night and say the person you are attracted to is the evil one come with me to escape and THE END I know there will be friends of the author that will blast me for not giving her a good review, sorry I bought it I earned the right to say what I got from it.. The first two books may have been a free taste me, like me.. but the third I wasted money and a half hour on.. and yea you can read all three books in under an hour and a half.. If you are going to write a story did you skip the classes that said outline your work so that it has a beginning, a peak and an ending..some books actually have roller coaster ride in them where you get multiple ups and downs and twist and turns.. this feels like the kiddle coaster that never gets more the four feet off the ground and everyone gets a participant award for going for the ride. I wrote a story to entertain family and put out over 500,000 words and no end in sight.. because I want to continue to entertain.. this is put out a book report and hope that you get enough people to try it and you break even.. If the author doesn't put out the effort why should the reader care to follow the author into the next set of books she/he may write? I recommend reading it out loud to a small group of strangers, number one reading out loud gives you points where dialogue doesn't flow, strangers will ask questions as to why did that happen or did I miss something there?? That is your clue to go back and flesh out the questions so that they make sense.. You had Great potential the outline is great, then it's like you ripped off the second half and only wrote the first part.. Go back and FINISH the Books If you do to Please do so in one book and NOT three..You are allowed to write more then 40 pages you know..

Too Short! Good read so far...

This is a great second read in the series, but they are just so short. This installment and the first just whet your appetite for more, but I am one of those readers that wants it all at once rather than in dribs and drabs.

The storyline is heating up, but there is so much hanging in the air with both reads of this series. Diana is finding out things she is not so sure she wants to know, and definitely does not understand. She knows she, Cat and Charlie are in big trouble, but doesn't really know why or from who. A note that said "trust no one" keeps coming to her mind as she sorts through all the incredible mess that has been her life since she took the temp job with Cat's company.

To be left hanging, yet again, is just not the best way to get me to continue in any series! But since I have read the first two, might as well go for the next one!

Not as it seems

This is an amazing continuation! Everything is not what I thought it was after reading the first book! The pace of this one is also much faster. There's lots of excitement. Characters are interesting and pretty well developed. Cliffhanger ending that made me rush out to buy the third installment! Definitely recommend this series so far!

About the Author

Nivaldo Tro is Professor of Chemistry at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, where he has been a faculty member since 1990.�� He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Stanford University, for work on developing and using optical techniques to study the adsorption and desorption of molecules to and from surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum.�� He then went on to the University of California at Berkeley, where he did post-doctoral research on ultra-fast reaction dynamics in solution.� Since coming to Westmont, Professor Tro has been awarded grants from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund, from Research Corporation, and from the National Science Foundation to study the dynamics of various processes occurring in thin layer films adsorbed on dielectric surfaces.�� He has been honored as Westmont's outstanding teacher of the year three times and has also received the college's outstanding researcher of the year award.�� Professor Tro lives in Santa Barbara with his wife, Ann, and their four children, Michael, Ali, Kyle, and Kaden.� In his leisure time, Professor Tro enjoys mountain biking, surfing, reading to his children, and being outdoors with his family.

Get the first edition.

I have just bought this brand new 3rd edition and compared it with my 1st edition. They are almost exactly the same, even down to the page numbers. This is an old scam by textbook publishers, but usually they will at least change around the table of contents and put in new diagrams, photos and tables. Not so with this title.

And if the 1st and 3rd editions are almost exact copies, then I'm sure the 2nd edition would be fine too.

Also, do not think that you need to buy the "Custom Edition" for your school, it's just the campus bookstore's and publisher's way of keeping you off Amazon and charging you double for an already overpriced book.

An engaging and well organized new text for general chemistry

This is a new textbook for general chemistry. Yes, there a quite a number of general chemistry texts and they all cover roughly the same general material. They differ more in how they organize the material, illustrate it, and their method of helping the student develop a solid understanding and command of this basic material. The student not only needs to learn the basic facts of chemistry, she needs to learn how to think about it so when she looks at the world, she can see and understand the issues as they relate to this vital science.

Dr. Tro begins this book by explaining how the text was developed and provides instructions for the student on how to make the most of the book. I liked this a great deal. He starts the book by providing what he thinks is the most important scientific idea in all of human knowledge: "the properties of matter are determined by the properties of molecules and atoms". From there he builds all the principles taught in general chemistry. He also define chemistry as: "the science that seeks to understand the behavior of matter by studying the behavior of atoms and molecules".

Each chapter is organized in a similar fashion and a great deal of emphasis is placed on making the illustrations demonstrate a principle - a process - rather than an isolated picture. Tro also has interesting articles of chemistry in various fields in different chapters and he often introduces ideas with practical issues that will likely matter to the student.

For review, at the end of each chapter he goes over the key concepts taught, the key equations and relationships discussed, and the key skills that the student is expected to have learned. He provides exercises to test one's mastery of the material that the student can answer for himself. The problems are organized by chapter topic. Those listed with blue numbers have answers provided in the back of the book. There are also cumulative problems that build on skills learned previously, challenge problems, and conceptual problems that go a bit further than the minimum requirements of chapter mastery.

Besides Appendix III with selected answers, there are others with key equations, useful data, and a glossary. And there is a good index, as well.

I think it is a handsome and very useful text for teaching and learning general chemistry. A general reader could benefit from studying from it because it is clear and engaging enough that one can work through what is being taught.

Great book, but the solutions manual is essential.

This is an excellent book that gives wonderful examples that clarify confusing concepts in chemistry. Granted, this book does have a few things that are less than desirable (exothermic/endothermic reactions are confusing because Tro does not clearly define what the "system" is; wave diffraction is confusing but that is really a physics topic, etc.). However, the way Tro sorts out problems (sort, strategize, solve, solution, check) is amazing. To truly reap the benefits of this incredible book though, the serious student should purchase the instructor's solutions manual (all reveiw questions and every problem at the end of each chapter). About the Author
����Paula Yurkanis Bruice was raised primarily in Massachusetts. After graduating from the Girls’ Latin School in Boston, she earned an A.B. from Mount Holyoke College and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Virginia. She then received an NIH postdoctoral fellowship for study in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Virginia Medical School and held a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Pharmacology at Yale Medical School.
����Paula has been a member of the faculty at the University of California, Santa Barbara since 1972, where she has received the Associated Students Teacher of the Year Award, the Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award, two Mortar Board Professor of the Year Awards, and the UCSB Alumni Association Teaching Award. Her research interests center on the mechanism and catalysis of organic reactions, particularly those of biological significance. Paula has a daughter and a son who are physicians and a son who is a lawyer. Her main hobbies are reading mystery and suspense novels and enjoying her pets (two dogs, two cats, and a parrot).

Worst Organic Chemistry Textbook?

This is by far the worst organic chemistry textbook I have used, and is probably one of the worst textbooks I have ever come across. Aside from those who thought that placing their reviews under the product page was the same thing as rating the seller, I have no idea why there are so many positive reviews for it.

It is excessively verbose, often confusingly worded, and generally ordered in a very discontinuous, confusing way. Really the only good thing about the ordering is that Bruice discusses stereochemistry near the beginning of the book (chapter 4), prior to even discussing any of the reactions, while other books tend to address it much later. By tackling it it early, students are much better able to understand how the molecules take shape after the reactions occur.

Unfortunately, many other important topics are oddly disjointed and poorly presented. For example, she discusses the criteria for aromaticity and Huckel's rule in chapter 8, but then doesn't actually go into the reactions of benzene and aromatic compounds until chapter 19. Chapter 12 deals with organometallic reactions, like the Grignard reagents, but Bruice does not explain their extremely important interactions with carbonyl compounds until chapters 16 and 17, once she finally gets around to the carbonyls. And the chapters on carbonyls, 16, 17, and 18, are probably the worst in the book, in my opinion. Rather than starting with a basic overview of the 4 or 5 general reaction types, she starts straight with nucleophylic acyl substitution and carbonyl derivatives, such as acyl chlorides, esters, etc. She only gets to the aldehydes and ketones in the next chapter. She does loosely group the chapters by reaction type but somehow the overall effect is a messy jumble of multiple functional groups. Chapter 17 is called "Aldehydes and Ketones" but also includes reactions of derivatives. It makes no sense. Why not group the chapters into "carbonyl addition and elimination, substitution, alpha-addition, condensation?" It's very easy to get confused which atom is attacked by the base, and organizing it clearly by reaction type makes things so much clearer.

As for the problems in the textbook, a good number of them are also confusingly worded, to the point that my professor herself was unsure as to what they were asking, and told me to just ignore them. If you end up using this book, know that there are no answers in the back of the book to any of the questions, even just the odd numbered ones. You will have to get the solutions manual (which also has quite a few errors in it) if you want to know the answers.

Bruice does go into more detail on certain topics than other books do (like McMurry), making it seem like an attractive option for students to transition to advanced organic chemistry. But becaue it is just so generally poorly written and organized, I would not recommend it. Bruice writes in her introduction that the book can be used for beginning organic chemistry students, but I don't know why anybody would want to subject a student to this book. I am not generally a bad student, and I had even taken organic chemistry several years ago. I ended up having to retake the class to meet certain prerequisites because I did not remember any of what I had learned nearly a decade ago. In my first class we used Loudon, and in my second one we used this book. At first, I actually did worse the second time around because of how awful this book was. I was at my wits' end trying to figure out what was going on, until I realized it wasn't me, it was the book. Once I stopped reading it and switched to different sources, my grades went back up. I would honestly recommend almost any other book over this one. I quite liked Loudon for its brevity and clarity, and I still use it for reference, though it doesn't go into as much detail on certain topics as Bruice does. I would also recommend McMurry for students who are not chemistry majors. It can be too simplistic at times, but it is generally easy to follow, and gives you a good foundation to build on. I have also heard very things about Wade and about Carey, though I have not personally tried them.

Overall, with so many other options for organic chemistry textbooks that actually work, professors, please, do your students a favor and don't assign this book. And students, if you do get this book assigned to you, you might want to get a copy of a different textbook to supplement.

Good Book.

I really liked this book. There are various ways to teach organic chemistry in the form of a text. In my case this was a good book to learn from. When I put forth the effort to go to my class and study from this book I was able to do well in my course. When I would not study from the book and did not understand the professor I did not do as well. The book is clear to those who put in the time to understand the material. The online homework questions that were used were also very helpful, when they were assigned.

Great book

This book was honestly really good. I had a great teacher for organic, and this book helped me clarify things that he couldn't. The problems at the end of the chapter are wonderful, and are even better with the solutions manual that was packaged with the book. If you are taking organic and your teacher requires this book, be thankful. It's a really good book.
